On November 22, 2013 the Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary Mr. László Kövér received Ukrainian delegation consisting of the representatives of the Embassy of Ukraine in Hungary, members of the Ukrainian World Coordinating Council (UWCC) and the Ukrainian minority of Hungary on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine.
During the meeting the Ambassador of Ukraine to Hungary Mr. Yurii Mushka expressed to the Chairman of the Hungarian parliament deep appreciation for the solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
The Chairman of the Society of the Ukrainian Culture in Hungary Mrs. Yaroslava Hortyani on behalf of the Ukrainian diaspora presented to Mr. Kövér a Letter of Commendation of the Ukrainian World Congress and Ukrainian European Congress, while the Chairman of the Ukrainian World Coordinating Council Mr. Mykhailo Ratushnyy on behalf of the Ukrainian diaspora of 42 countries thanked the Hungarian people and parliament for sincere condolences on this tragedy.
As a sign of gratitude the Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary was awarded an embroidered icon, made by the Ukrainian artist Roman Mahotskyy and consecrated by Greek-Catholic priest, Father Petro Gaboriy.
A remembrance candle– a symbol of solidarity of the Hungarian people with the Ukrainian nation – was lighted in the parliament.
