On June 18, 2014 Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Mr. Yurii Prodan and CEO of “Naftogaz” Mr. Andrij Kobolyev paid a visit to Hungary.
During the visit the Ukrainian delegation participated in the Central and South-East European Forum on Energy Security. The participants of the Forum were briefed on Ukraine’s energy policy, progress and prospects of trilateral consultations on prices and terms of Russian gas supplies to Ukraine as well on the restructuring of the Ukrainian energy sector.
The Ukrainian side underlined that the European Commission’s proposal, put forward at the latest round of trilateral consultations, is mutually beneficial to both sides. However, as far as the Russian side stepped out of the negotiations process, the issue of gas supplies to Ukraine and the EU may be temporarily resolved by the decision of the Stockholm arbitrary before its final settlement between “Naftogaz” and “Gazprom”.
During its visit to Budapest the Ukrainian delegation also met with the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Mr. Tibor Navracsics and Minister of National Development Miklos Seszták. Current issues of the European energy security and the Hungarian-Ukrainian cooperation in the energy sector were discussed at the meetings. The parties agreed about the need to continue reverse gas supplies to Ukraine from Hungary and speed-up the conclusion of the Ukrainian-Hungarian-Croatian Declaration on the Construction of the Adriatic Gas Corridor.
